Union Mercantile Limited (UML) is a private limited company originally incorporated in England in 1960 and later established in Bangladesh in 1974. Since its inception, UML has been actively involved in a wide range of engineering and construction projects across the country, earning a reputation for reliability, technical expertise, and professional excellence.
Over the years, UML has successfully collaborated on numerous major turnkey power and general engineering projects with internationally renowned organizations, including GEC ALSTHOM (France), NEI Reyrolle (UK), Bonar Cruickshank (UK), Toyomenka Kaisha (Japan), CNCCC (China), Technique Louis Menard (France), Foster Wheeler (UK), BHEL (India), China Chengda Engineering Co., Larsen & Toubro (India), and Samsung C&T (South Korea).
The company’s scope of work has included comprehensive civil construction, electro-mechanical erection, testing and commissioning, and inland transportation of heavy lift equipment and general cargo. UML has executed complete project responsibilities in most locations, while undertaking civil works exclusively in Chandpur, Bhola, and Bibiyana. At Sikalbaha, UML carried out all civil works along with selected mechanical installations.
UML’s civil construction portfolio includes control buildings, administrative and hostel buildings, workshops and warehouses, machinery and equipment foundations, internal and approach roads, boundary and retaining walls, slope protection, bridges over approach canals, and transmission line foundations.
In addition to construction, Union Mercantile Limited has also provided operation and maintenance services for power plants during the warranty period on behalf of equipment manufacturers and the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). The company brings nearly two decades of combined experience in plant operation and maintenance, ensuring efficient performance and long-term reliability.
Through decades of dedicated service, UML has established itself as a trusted partner in Bangladesh’s infrastructure and power development sector.
Here it may be mentioned that we are the only Bangladeshi Company who has such experience on operation and maintenance of power station, in addition to project management, turn-key construction, testing & commissioning, with the exception of the National Utility Authority of Bangladesh Government namely Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). In most of those works we were joint venture partners assuming Turnkey responsibilities for Design, Engineering of all off-site facilities, site development, piling, foundation engineering, construction of all civil works of control building, roads, perimeter walls, drains, Transformer & other switchyard foundations, transmission lines, etc., specialized transportation of equipment from port to respective site, unloading & putting on pedestal, erection, testing, commissioning, operation & maintenance of all works. Moreover, we have in house arrangement for design & engineering of all civil works & we have undertaken the design & engineering of all civil works for most of the projects.
